Our Ensembles...

We currently have two groups in our organization, the Fermi Community Orchestra (FCO) and Fermi Community Strings (FCS). No auditions are required to join, with the exception of musicians who are interested in section leader positions. Open positions in the FCO may vary depending on instrument needs for a complete and balanced orchestra sound.

Both ensembles rehearse on Sundays at the Batavia United Methodist Church in Batavia, Illinois.  Our season is typically divided into three sessions in fall, winter, and spring.  Rehearsals occur weekly for approximately eight weeks prior to the concert. Each session includes sectional clinics with local top music professionals, and our concerts are always free to the public.  Check out each group below for a little more information...

Fermi Community Orchestra

Rehearsals: Sundays 6:30-9:00pm

The Fermi Community Orchestra is a full symphonic ensemble for experienced amateur players, retired professionals, music teachers, and adult students.  This orchestra challenges its members with exciting standard classical literature in a fun, welcoming, and non-competitive environment. Auditions are not required, however previous orchestral experience is essential.  Open to all string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players.

Fermi Community Strings

Rehearsals: Sundays 4:30-6:00pm

The Fermi Community Strings is dedicated to string musicians (violin, viola, cello, bass) who are just getting started in orchestral playing.  Whether you are an adult beginner, or seasoned musician trying a new instrument, this orchestra will explore ensemble playing from a fundamental level with enjoyable and accessible literature. Auditions are not required.  A couple of years playing experience is recommended.
